January 9, 2012

Bom dia Seattle!!!!!

And for the last time as well........
Yes this is THE last E-mail of the mission. Usually there would be a Wednesday e mail next week but I'm not staying so I don't E-mail home!
So I found out a couple of things this week.... First: I got the package that the young women sent me. Whooooo! It's full of candy that I don't know if I'll be able to finish. That and it has Easy Mac too! But I don't have a microwave so I don't even know if I can cook it right... Truth be told, almost no one has a microwave here. So I really don't know about that one. Second: I talked with one of the secretaries in the mission office and turns out I will be going to the temple in Recife. He said for all Americans they arranged the flights like that and he has to call and change it. But no problem because he already did. So no worries there.
So I don't know what happened but I didn't get the talk that Dad was supposed to e mail me..... so I'm just going to continue on writing mine and somehow combine it when I get home. Hope it works.
I have one more week to get my investigator confirmed. She couldn't come to church yesterday because her sister was sick and had to stay home with her. But come next Sunday we'll get it done.
Other than that not a whole lot. Just trying to make the best out of this short short time. Its going to be a very strange thing for me leaving this place. It doesn't feel real. But at the same time I'm happy to come home. Well Seattle, get ready cuz I'm coming home.

Bom Dia Seattle!

IT'S 2012!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wow, so not only am I in the year but in the month also. Cool! So I had a splendid New Years that included a baptism. So I'm really happy about that. We baptized on Saturday and confirmed on Sunday. So the first new member of 2012. I really thought this week would be trouble and all with all the noise and our neighbors but it wasn't so bad. This time as soon as midnight rolled around they turned down their music. HA! They now know me too well......
Didn't really do anything cool for new years. We did stay up just so we can say we did but we were both ready to sleep in our beds. It went a little like this:
Me: Hey you cant go to be until midnight.
Comp: Yeah, you're right.
10 min later......
*fireworks*
Me: Well its 2012, good night!

Yeah.... not a lot. So I was reading my flight info and I guess I wont be going to the temple in Recife. It says I leave Joâo Pessoa for Sâo Paulo. So I'm guessing there must have been a problem with the flights and there were none that could work. Guess that's what happens when you travel at the end of the holidays.
Well. I'm out. But I'll make sure next week is full of better things. They always save the best for last.

December 26, 2011

Good morning Seattle!
So yes, like I said yesterday in our phone call, today's E-mail is nothing really new for anyone in the family. But just for the record here we go.
This week was Christmas week. And it was actually pretty busy for me as well. I was really busy running around hectically trying to get everything ready for my white Christmas baptism. I'm really glad it's just over. I can finally stop and not have to worry about it. So my area was full of little parties on all the streets. And we were soooooo lucky that our new neighbors who I absolutely "love" decided to invite their entire church congregation over so they could sing/ scream and party the entire night. It was really really loud and I even asked them to turn it down. I already know that New Year's with them is just going to be "awesome".......... So the entire night I slept with ear plugs in my ears that I bought when I lived in Natal.
So a question that I forgot to ask everyone yesterday was about Maple Leaf. It was Sunday so what did you guys do instead????? I was just thinking about that. And as for Dad's question, we go from João Pessoa to Recife by van. Yay. But its nothing to bad. I'll make sure to keep things that I can actually use when I get back. But I already know that I won't need a bunch of old stuff. Sounds like I'll have to buy new clothes and everything when I get back.
Well nothing else. Can't think of anything else that you don't already know. So I guess I'll just leave it at that and write you guys next week.
Till next week.

Love, Elder Swany

December 19, 2011

Hello Seattle!

One more week until Christmas! I'm glad to hear that my Christmas cards are actually getting out to everyone on time this year. So I'm happy to say that the water in my area has finally come back!!!! I was getting really mad with this whole water situation. It came back on Wednesday night. Even if we did move houses the water would still be a problem. This area has problems with water in every single part. So it really doesn't matter where you live cuz it's all over.
So on Tuesday we had our mission Christmas conference. And it was simple but very good. We had the spiritual part first where President and Sister Hall did their trainings and it was really good. In Sister Hall's she had chosen parts of some of the letters the parents wrote to share with everyone. After she shared part of the letter she told who's parents wrote it. And guess what? Your guys' letter was one of them. So I think she really liked the letter. After we got to eat lunch and play some futebol.  Or you could have played with the stuff the institute has, like ping pong, pool, foose ball, and Wii. So really nothing too fancy but still fun. Along with that I got a new tie and a energy efficient light bulb for my house. Waahhhhoooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So when I was at the conference I kept my eye out for any packages but there were none for me.... so I guess this means that package will get here sometime... I just hope it's soon...... We'll just see.
Well that's all I got for this week. And don't forget I'll be ringing my bell as well here in Brasil on Christmas Eve. I'll stay up a half hour late just so I can. Well my friends, Sunday will be the day! Talk to you then!

December 12, 2011

Good afternoon Seattle.

It's time for e-mail. Hold on to your hats.
So even though today I am e-mailing today is not technically "p-day". This is because tomorrow is the mission Christmas conference. I have no idea what it's going to be like but I know its going to be very different and this time I don't need to travel because its all ready going to be here in Joâo Pessoa. So after e-mail it's a normal day for me.
So today is day 9 without running water...... In this area the water shuts off but usually comes back shortly after. But not this time. Something broke and now the entire neighborhood doesn't have water. The only source of water I have is a nozzle in the front of my house. It isn't even fully pressurized but water still comes out. So from that I've been getting water to drink, wash clothes, clean, etc. It is super annoying and I really want it to come back. Today the people here are having a protest about it but I really doubt that it will change anything. But we'll see.
Yeah so I was thinking about the call last night. We too only have sacrament meeting. So I was thinking about calling you guys 11:30 your time or something. I'm not exactly sure cuz I still have to talk to my companion about what time I'll call and what time he will. But we still have another week and e-mail in between us so I'll make sure to finalize everything next week in the e-mail.
This week we found another solid investigator who has a lot of potential. We were on the bus again and it was extremely crowded. She got up and talked to us and said she has a friend who is a member. Turns out she is really interested in the church and is golden. She has already accepted to be baptized and is very excited about it. The bus has been very good to me and I have gotten some really good baptisms from it. Maybe I should just ride the bus all day long rather than knocking doors....... Seems more effective......
Yesterday we had a special stake conference via satellite for the northeast. Its was interesting and fun. I even had my new investigator go. So it was really good.
Yeah so that's all I can really think of. I'm still in denial that it's my last transfer. But I'm excited to come home as well. Just got to make the best of it all. Well, until next week.
Love you guys,

Elder Swany
